What is prototypal inheritance? How does it differ from class inheritance?
Every object has a prototype chain. If a property is missing, JavaScript walks [[Prototype]] until Object.prototype. class Child extends Parent is sugar: it sets up that chain. It is not Java's class model. Object.create(proto) makes an object whose prototype is proto. The follow-up is __proto__ versus prototype. prototype lives on the constructor. __proto__ is the instance link. I would say I use Object.getPrototypeOf in real code rather than touching __proto__.
__proto__ versus prototype?
prototype lives on functions for new. __proto__ is the instance link. I use Object.getPrototypeOf. I draw Fn.prototype and obj.[[Prototype]]. Classes set this up.
Object.create versus class extends?
Object.create(proto) sets the prototype, no constructor required. class extends sets chain plus constructors. Object.create(null) avoids Object.prototype pollution.
Prototype pollution?
Merging JSON can set __proto__ and poison Object.prototype. Object.create(null) or block proto keys. I do not Object.assign user JSON onto {} blindly.
Where do Array methods live?
Array.prototype. Array.prototype.slice.call on array-likes; Array.from in modern code. I would not extend native prototypes in library code.
How do you stay updated on Prototypes changes in JavaScript?
Follow release notes, RFCs or PEPs, official blogs, and reputable courses. Experiment in side projects when new Prototypes-related features ship so you can speak confidently about migration paths.
What testing approach works best for Prototypes logic in JavaScript?
Table-driven tests, property-based tests for invariants, and benchmarks for hot paths. Mock external I/O but keep core Prototypes logic pure where possible so tests remain fast and reliable.
What documentation would you consult when working with Prototypes in JavaScript?
Use the official JavaScript docs for Prototypes, language or framework references, and reputable community guides. Bookmark release notes and migration guides when upgrading versions, since Prototypes behavior can change between releases.
What is a common beginner mistake when learning Prototypes?
Copying snippets without understanding why Prototypes works leads to fragile code. Beginners often skip error handling, tests, or edge cases. Slow down, trace execution step by step, and validate assumptions with small experiments.
Which JavaScript syntax or standard-library tools are most useful for Prototypes?
Connect Prototypes to concrete types, concurrency primitives, or library modules. Cite a short example and when you would use it in production.
How should errors surface from code that implements Prototypes in JavaScript?
Describe exceptions or Result-style patterns as applicable to JavaScript. Propagate context, log carefully, and avoid masking failures in Prototypes.
What checks for Prototypes happen before runtime versus only at runtime in JavaScript?
Some Prototypes issues are caught by the compiler/linter; others appear with I/O or user input. That split drives tests and defensive coding.
How would you organize a small JavaScript package that owns Prototypes?
Separate public API from internals, name clearly, document, and unit test. Follow community package layout idioms for JavaScript.
What performance trap should juniors avoid when coding Prototypes in JavaScript?
Avoid premature optimization but know traps: excess allocations, blocking I/O on hot paths, or O(n²) algorithms. Profile before optimizing Prototypes.
How do you stay current on Prototypes changes in JavaScript?
Follow release notes, RFCs/PEPs, and official blogs. Try new Prototypes-related features in side projects before production migrations.
How would you introduce Prototypes to a new teammate joining a JavaScript project?
Start with the problem Prototypes solves, show a minimal working example, and list the team conventions around it. Point them at official docs and one trusted internal example rather than random snippets.
Why does solid understanding of Prototypes matter for day-to-day JavaScript work?
Prototypes shows up often in production JavaScript work—misunderstanding it leads to bugs, performance issues, or security gaps. Interviewers want clear explanations plus practical judgment.
Give a concrete production-style scenario that uses Prototypes in JavaScript.
Describe scaffolding a feature, configuring defaults, or validating input where Prototypes is required. Call out what goes wrong if the team skips conventions around it.
What learning path would you follow to get productive with Prototypes quickly?
Read the official overview, run a minimal sandbox, learn key terms and common errors, then expand with a small project. Hands-on practice beats memorizing Prototypes definitions.
How would you describe the business value of Prototypes without heavy jargon?
Frame Prototypes as improving reliability, speed, security, or maintainability. Use a product outcome analogy, then note how JavaScript engineers apply Prototypes to deliver that outcome.
Which docs and references would you keep open while working on Prototypes in JavaScript?
Official JavaScript documentation for Prototypes, language/framework references, and reputable guides. Track release notes because Prototypes behavior can change between versions.
How would you architect a large JavaScript system that depends heavily on Prototypes?
Define clear ownership boundaries for Prototypes, failure domains, caching, and observability. Plan capacity, multi-region needs if relevant, and explicit trade-offs between consistency, latency, and cost.
What are the highest-impact security risks for Prototypes in JavaScript, and how do you mitigate them?
Map the Prototypes attack surface (injection, broken auth, data exposure, DoS). Layer defenses—validation, rate limits, least privilege, encryption, and regular audits.
What practical production concern should you discuss for Prototypes in JavaScript (scenario 1)?
Cover correctness, failure modes, observability, and operational ownership for Prototypes in JavaScript. Scenario 1 should include a concrete metric and a rollback or mitigation plan.
What practical production concern should you discuss for Prototypes in JavaScript (scenario 2)?
Cover correctness, failure modes, observability, and operational ownership for Prototypes in JavaScript. Scenario 2 should include a concrete metric and a rollback or mitigation plan.
