A closure is a function that still sees variables from the outer function after that outer function has returned. If I write function makeCounter() { let n = 0; return () => ++n }, each counter keeps its own n. That is how I hide state without a class. React hooks work because the function closes over props and state. A bug I would mention: a for loop with var and an async callback. All callbacks share one i. I would use let, or bind the index. They ask this to see if I understand scope, not to hear a textbook sentence. I always give the counter example.
