A train 120 m long runs at 54 km/h. How long does it take to pass a pole?
A pole is a point, so the train has to cover its own length, 120 meters. Speed is 54 km/h. I convert to m/s: 54 times 5/18 is 15 m/s. Time is distance over speed, 120 / 15 = 8 seconds. So I would mark 8 seconds.
A 120 m train at 54 km/h passes a 180 m platform. Time?
54 km/h is 15 m/s. Distance is train plus platform, 300 m. Time 300/15 = 20 s. I always convert with 5/18. Two trains add lengths and use relative speed.
Two trains 100 m and 120 m at 40 and 50 km/h toward each other. Time to cross?
Relative 90 km/h = 25 m/s. Lengths 220 m. Time 8.8 s. Same direction would use 10 km/h relative. I ask same or opposite before I compute.
